Life

Educated at the University of Paris, Bonaventure entered the Franciscan order and eventually became its minister general. His leadership helped guide the order through periods of tension while preserving the spiritual vision of Francis of Assisi.

Theological Vision

Bonaventure described the spiritual life as a journey of the mind and heart toward God. Creation itself reflects the divine Word, and through contemplation of Christ the soul is drawn into union with God.
